Distinguished Sigma Xi Lecturer Dr. Emily Tobey will give a free public lecture “Frankenstein: How physics, literature and theatre led to a scientific success” at 7 PM Thursday after the 5 PM banquet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Tobey is a Nelle C. Johnston Chair in Communication Disorders in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Tobey received her undergraduate and master’s degree in speech-language pathology from New Mexico State University and Louisiana State University Medical Center. Her doctorate in speech science was obtained at the City University of New York in 1981. She has been employed as teacher of the deaf in the Orleans Parish School System in New Orleans, in addition, to her previous employment at the Louisiana State University Medical Center as an instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and professor in the Departments of Communication Disorders, Removable Prosthodontics, and Otorhinolaryngology. She has served as a researcher at Haskins Laboratories and Kresge Hearing Research Laboratory of the South. Dr. Leonard Storm has returned to his faculty position and will be retiring from EIU this December.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As of July 1, 2009, Dr. Gary Bulla will be serving as the interim chair and Dr. Steve Mullin as the interim associate chair of Biological Sciences.  Dr. Andrew Methven is returning to his faculty position and will continue to serve as the coordinator for the MS in Natural Sciences program.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Craig Eckert has been appointed as the new chair of the Sociology/Anthropology Department.   He will replace Dr. Gary Foster who will be retiring from EIU this August.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Mark McGuire will serve as the interim chair of the Chemistry Department during the Fall semester and Dr. Dan Sheeran will begin his appointment as chair of Chemistry on January 1, 2010 after completing a research sabbatical during the Fall semester. Dr. Nelson was nominated by her co-workers for her &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;commitment&lt;/span&gt; to the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;program&lt;/span&gt; and her collaborative approach to leadership.
